Initially selling imported watches and jewelry, Shogoro eventually saw an opportunity to create his own quality timepieces after decades in the business. This decision marked the beginning of what would become Orient.

In 1934, Yoshida Watch Shop evolved into Toyo Tokei Manufacturing, producing wall clocks and other measuring instruments. This transition signaled the company’s ambition to become a recognized watch manufacturer in Japan. However, post-World War II economic challenges forced Toyo Tokei to close in 1949. Yet, this setback was not the end of Orient’s journey.

The Official Formation of Orient Watch Company

In 1950, Shogoro Yoshida established the Orient Watch Company in Hino, Tokyo. With renewed determination, Orient began producing affordable, high-quality watches—a significant milestone in the company’s history. The year 1951 marked another historic moment when Orient launched its first watch, the “Orient Star.” This model became the company’s flagship product, embodying Orient’s commitment to producing high-quality mechanical watches.

Additionally, Orient launched new lines like the Orient Bambino, which has become one of the brand’s most popular collections worldwide, known for its simple, classic, and elegant aesthetic.
